Arizona Clean & Beautiful announces new partnership

Hires Project Coordinator and moves corporate offices to Peoria April 2008, Peoria, AZ

Arizona Clean & Beautiful, a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, maintaining, and enhancing the state's beauty and environmental quality, has partnered with the Challenger Space Center and appointed a new Project Coordinator to continue its valuable mission of environmental awareness and action.

Mary Lynn Kelly has agreed to serve as the Project Coordinator for Arizona Clean & Beautiful effective immediately. Ms. Kelly also serves as Executive Director of the Challenger Space Center in Peoria, and sees many similarities in the missions of the two organizations.

“At the Challenger Space Center, we have adopted the theme that ‘Earth is our Favorite Planet,’ ” said Kelly. “We encourage citizens of all ages to learn more about the universe in which we live, and that begins with caring for our home planet first.”

“This partnership offers the opportunity for growth for Arizona Clean & Beautiful in the coming year and I am excited about the potential,” said Susie West, who was appointed President of the Board for Arizona Clean & Beautiful after the death of Chuck Shipley who served as a vital force for this issue for over 10 years. “It’s yet another version of the national slogan to ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ in that it will foster the missions of both agencies.

“We also wanted to honor Chuck and all of those who have contributed to this effort through the years, and this partnership will build on those past successes,” added West.

Ms. Kelly will be working with ACB’s Board of Directors, as well as its generous network of corporate sponsors and its statewide Affiliate Network to expand existing programs and develop new ones throughout the coming year, building on a natural synergism with the Challenger Space Center.

For example, earlier this year, Arizona Public Service provided funding for the Challenger Space Center to start a Green Science Program to incorporate cutting edge environmental science topics into existing Center’s programs. Since APS and other Arizona utility companies have played an active role in Arizona Clean & Beautiful, many existing relationships will be enhanced by this new association.

ACB’s Affiliate Network is the cornerstone of the organization’s efforts to maintain beauty standards throughout the state, and connects various towns and cities to both the state and national programs. These Affiliates coordinate local efforts to keep the state litter free.

In conjunction with the Kelly appointment, the Arizona Clean & Beautiful offices will now be located at the Challenger Space Center located at 21170 N. 83rd Ave. in Peoria, which also serves as the central coordination point for the statewide network of ACB Affiliates. ACB’s new phone number is 623-322-2020.

“I am very excited about the potential for growth for Arizona Clean & Beautiful in the coming year,” said Kelly. “There will be many interactive opportunities for the public to learn more about our planet and how to take care of it.”

Arizona Clean and Beautiful, founded in 1985, is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to preserving, maintaining, and enhancing the beauty and environmental quality of Arizona through research, education and the Arizona Affiliate Network.

The Challenger Space Center is a world-class educational facility located in Peoria, AZ, that inspires visitors of all ages to develop a lifelong interest in math, science, technology and space travel. The center’s mission is to inspire, excite and educate people of all ages about the mysteries and wonders of space, science and the universe in which we live.
